There are few aspects of history that both disgusts, and enthralls those who care to investigate. Serial killers are that exact type of fringe topic. Leaving many bewildered and shocked, they’ve created a dark stain in human history. The topic seems to transcend from morbid curiosity, into an analysis of the perverted mindset of these truly alien personalities. That being said, lets showcase a brief history of the topic, and breakdown some of mankind’s most perverted beings.
A long standing and terrible tradition
Unfortunately murder is one of the things over the course of human kind that we have truly perfected. Whether it is through war, criminal justice, political agenda, or plainly passion, we have compiled every reason to take a life.
On the fringe of these reasons, lie those who do it for hobby. Many have speculated (see here) that most of these heinous acts can be attributed to mental illness. Although the true history starts in the minds of these twisted individuals, we’ll highlight some of the first recorded cases here below:

Zu Shenatir (400s AD)-Lured young boys to his home sodomized and threw them from a window.
Gilles de Rais (1432-1440)-Tortured, raped, and murdered over 140 children in France.
Elizabeth Báthory (1585-1610)-Tortured dozens of her servants to death. She was eventually caught and imprisoned for life.
Thug Behram (1790-1840)– Acting as a leader of a gang of thieves and murderers, his cult managed to take the lives of nearly 1,000 people. (please read more here, it’s f*cking nuts)
John Johnston (1843-?)– Went on a murderous vendetta (and also ate their livers) after the killing of his wife by Crow Warriors. (holy sh*t read more about this as well)
H.H. Holmes (1886-1894)– Built the murder castle. It’s too insane to describe. Just read more about it here.

-In just ten years (1972-1982) The Zodiac Killer, John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and Gary Ridgeway were all active serial killers in the United States.
-Most serial killers were victims of some sort of child abuse and 70% encountered substance abuse.
-FBI agent Robert K. Kessler coined the term “serial killer” in 1971
-Ted Bundy kept polaroids of his victims as souvenirs, and was quoted as saying “when you work hard to do something, you don’t want to forget it.”
-Animal abuse and pyromania are warning signs of psychotic behavior, which is a contributing factor to serial homicide.
