Clemson Tigers Win First National Championship since 1981
The Clemson Tigers overtook the the Alabama Crimson Tide 35-31, in a thriller National Championship game that saw lead changes all the way up until the final minutes of the game.
The Clemson Tigers came into this game as heavy underdogs, compared to the reigning national champions. With a 10-point lead heading into the 4th quarter, Alabama seemed to be confidently controlling the game en route to another National Championship. But the Tigers fought back with 21 points in the final quarter of the game, and a touchdown to Tyler Renfrow (his second of the game) with only 1 second left on the clock to secure the victory.
Clemson squashed Alabama hopes, as well as Nick Saban’s, of seeking their 4th National title since 2009, and back-to-back titles after their Championship last year.
This is Dabo Sweeney’s first National Championship since his debut as coach of the Clemson Tigers in 2003.
